Description:
While Utumno shares a sun with Calia, any similarities end there. The rocky world is boiling hot, with an invasive and toxic atmosphere that will eat through basic suit filters in minutes. The native creatures that eke out a living on the hellish world are uniformly aggressive, willing to tear apart anyone or anything foolish enough to get within reach.
The world has served as a prison world since the golden age of the Terran Mandate, and the Federation has found it useful enough to continue its operation into the present day. The worst of the worst that the sector has to offer are sent here as the ultimate punishment. Once you're sent to Utumno, there is little-to-no chance of leaving.
Given the nigh impossibility of escape, prisoners are given almost complete freedom. A primitive yet intricate society has developed in the gigantic habitation units that form their cells. New prisoners are inducted into one of the many gangs, each led by a powerful leader. These leaders have formed a council that oversees day-to-day life in the prison, ensuring that basic needs are met and resolving any disputes that arise among the prisoners. The traditional method for resolving such disputes is a highly ritualized form of combat that has been practiced within the prison for hundreds of years.
