Wide tropical bands cover this otherwise temperate world in a tangle of jungles, teeming with both alien and Terran life. A deeply spiritual people, the Khayans have long held that psionic abilities heralded the next stage of human evolution, and their Psionic Academy is the oldest in the sector.
Due to a statistically higher rate of psionic abilities in their population and the concentration of psionics on their world, the Scream ravaged Khaya far more than any other surviving world. The collapse of their government forces religious leaders to step in, leading to a theocracy that persists to this day. Yet, even the Scream could not shake their faith in psionics. The Grand Academy was refounded in the generation immediately following the Scream, as a new generation of Psionics relearned basic techniques from the extensive writings and training programs left behind by the previous generation.
The Khayans believe that the Scream was a punishment from angry gods for man's arrogance, specifically the Mandate's attempts at creating a True AI (the greatest blasphemy they can imagine.) As such, they are one of the biggest patrons of the Perimeter Agency, which is located on the neighboring world of Dukimos.
