Description:

The Fortress-World of Joria is the seat of military power in the Sector, and home to the Federal Military Academies. A massive complex of Mandate bases dot the cold and airless world's surface, mirrored by the extensive pretech shipyards that orbit above its skies. Being a barren waste, the planet was a poor candidate to support life post-Scream, and records indicate that the world's surviving population nearly died out following the collapse of Mandate supply lines. It seems that some semblance of military command was maintained for as long as possible, as most of the world's facilities were mothballed, and extensive databases were complied and placed under the care of monitoring AIs.

When the first Calian astronauts landed on the world, they expected to find nothing but abandoned facilities and withered corpses. While they did find those in droves, the shocked explorers also discovered a network of intact habitation modules, somehow still running after hundreds of years. The Jorians that survived had developed a quasi-military tribal government, and the two worlds were able to establish diplomatic contact within a few years. The Calians provided the Jorians with extensive humanitarian aid, and in return the Jorians helped the Calians reactivate the world's mandate facilities. Within a decade, the Jorian population was granted full citizenship in the Federation, marking the body's transition from international to interplanetary government.

Since their discovery, the Jorian population has rebounded dramatically, and they now form the largest minority group in the Federation. Jorian conscription laws ensure that their citizens are stationed on every Federation-controlled world, and multiple Veteran Colonies have been established across the sector.
